Is the kernel ntfs git still available ?

高志刚
Hi Anton:
Is the GIT tree:
<a href="git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/aia21/ntfs.git" class="">git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/aia21/ntfs.git
    still available ?

I wanna to push some code to kernel ntfs tree & kernel source.

Hi,

I am not entirely sure what you mean by "still available"?

I haven't updated it in ages as I haven't pushed any changes for inclusion in a long time.  But other than that yes, it is still there.  You cannot push anything to it though.  It is my personal account in kernel.org and only I can push to it.

Does this answer your question?  If not please ask again...

Best regards,

        Anton

Re: Is the kernel ntfs git still available ?

Hi Anton:
I thought it was the public tree for kernel ntfs code, and if I want to push code to kernel source , I need to push code to the NTFS tree first, or send a patch for this tree to you as you a kernel ntfs tree maintainer.
   Seems I am wrong.

So, how can I submit a patch to NTFS code ? Should I generate a patch from the current kernel source tree directly ?
I believe  that you are the maintainer of the kernel NTFS tree, so anyway I should send my patch to you first, and then you will merge it to kernel if the patch works.

Re: Is the kernel ntfs git still available ?

Hi,

The normal process is to send a patches to the maintainer (in this case me as you say), CC:-ing the mailing lists so that the patches can be reviewed and then if fine, I can indeed apply any patches and push them to my tree and then it can be picked up upstream with a request from me.

Best regards,

        Anton

Re: Is the kernel ntfs git still available ?

高志刚
Hi Anton:
    Thanks for your guide.
    Then the problem is that:
The current code in <a href="git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/aia21/ntfs.git" class="">git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/aia21/ntfs.git is a little bit out of date.
I have downloaded code from the latest linux source git, and found some different between your NTFS tree and the main Kernel tree:
the macro “PAGE_CACHE_*” have been replaced by “PAGE_*” .  For example: “PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT” to “PAGE_SHIFT
Some lock changes.
Some other minor changes.

Then, If I generate a patch for the NTFS tree, it must doesn’t work with the main kernel tree.
On the other side, If I format a patch for the Kernel tree, it must cannot be supplied to the NTFS tree.

I am not sure which one should be the baseline of my patch.
Is there any schedule to merge  the Kernel git tree to current NTFS git  tree? May I have a request for merging them ?

Re: Is the kernel ntfs git still available ?

Anton Altaparmakov-2
Hi,

Sorry, I meant patches against latest Linus tree not ntfs.git.  As I said I hadn't updated ntfs.git in ages...  There is nothing in it that is not in the kernel so I am going to throw it away and clone a fresh copy of Linus' tree into its place.

Best regards,

        Anton
